Equitable Bank is Canada's leading alternative mortgage lender and the seventh largest bank by assets. Unlike the Big Six banks or the monolines (First National, MCAP, Merix), Equitable has carved out a dominant position in the alternative — or "B-lending" — segment, serving borrowers who don't qualify for prime mortgage financing due to credit history, income documentation, or property type.

The Equitable Bank Annual Broker Day is a dedicated event for their registered broker partners and is particularly valued by brokers who regularly work with self-employed clients, recent newcomers to Canada, borrowers with bruised credit, or commercial and rental portfolio financing. These are deal types that the major bank channels and prime monolines often can't accommodate, but where Equitable's guidelines are purpose-built.

The event format is typically a half-day to full-day program in Toronto with a virtual stream for brokers outside the GTA. Sessions cover Equitable's residential alternative mortgage products (EQ Bank Mortgage, ACM product suite), their commercial and apartment lending programs, and EQ's digital banking products that are increasingly relevant as brokers look to offer clients a complete financial relationship beyond just the mortgage.

A key annual feature is the underwriting case study session: Equitable underwriters walk through real deal scenarios (anonymized) and explain how they adjudicated them. This type of session has high practical value for brokers — understanding the reasoning behind credit decisions is more useful than reading a product guide.

Equitable also uses the Broker Day to announce updates to their lending programs, guidelines, and technology. Their broker portal and application system have undergone significant development in recent years, and the event typically previews upcoming enhancements.

Registration is available through Equitable Bank's broker partner portal. Brokers not yet registered with Equitable can apply for approval; the bank actively expands its broker network.
