The Real Estate and Mortgage Institute of Canada (REMIC) is one of Canada's largest providers of mortgage broker education, delivering the pre-licensing courses and continuing education (CE) programs that most provincial regulators recognize for initial licensing and annual renewal.
REMIC offers both in-person classroom sessions in Toronto and fully online delivery, making it the go-to provider for brokers across the country who need flexible scheduling. Their programs are recognized by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA), the BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA), the Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA), the Saskatchewan Financial Services Commission, and other provincial regulators.
The REMIC licensing curriculum covers the fundamentals that every broker needs: mortgage law and regulation, lender products and guidelines, income qualification, property valuation basics, ethics and compliance. The pre-licensing course typically takes 40-60 hours to complete and is followed by a provincial licensing examination.
For licensed brokers, REMIC's CE programs cover topical issues in the industry. In 2025 and 2026, popular CE modules addressed changes to CMHC insured mortgage rules (including the new 30-year amortization option for first-time buyers introduced in 2024), OSFI Guideline B-20 updates, alternative lending products, and anti-money laundering compliance under FINTRAC.
REMIC also runs an annual Industry Day in Toronto — a one-day event that brings together REMIC students, graduates, and practicing brokers for a half-day education program and networking. The event is open to anyone in the industry and serves as an informal homecoming for the thousands of Ontario brokers who completed their REMIC licensing courses.
Full course schedules and CE event dates are available on the REMIC website year-round.
