FAQ

How the scorecard works

How is a forecast scored?
Each source is judged on its pick the day before the announcement: the outcome a prediction market priced highest, the call a named economist had on record, and the choice most bips readers voted for. The result is what the policy rate did on decision day, from the Bank of Canada Valet series.
Where do the numbers come from?
bips saves the Polymarket and Kalshi odds and each economist's latest dated call once a night. Nothing is edited after the fact. The same data is available as JSON at bips.ca/api/rate-watch/forecast.
Why might a person be missing?
A named economist is only scored when they had a stated hike, hold or cut on record the day before. Opinions that did not state a call are left out, not counted as misses.
